Blumify vs HandBrake
HandBrake is free, open-source desktop software for video conversion and compression. Blumify does a narrower version of the same job in a browser tab.
The short answer
For large files, batches, or anything confidential, HandBrake is genuinely the better tool and it costs nothing. Use us when installing software is the thing standing in your way.
Use HandBrake when
- You are compressing large files, or many of them — desktop software uses your own machine and has no upload step or size ceiling.
- You want detailed encoder control: two-pass encoding, filters, per-title presets, subtitle burn-in.
- Your files are sensitive enough that you would rather they never leave your computer.
Use Blumify when
- You have one file and do not want to install anything.
- You are on a phone, a locked-down work laptop, or a machine you do not own.
- The defaults are fine and you just want a smaller file.
