About this tool
This converts an MP4 video into an MP3 audio file. Upload the MP4 and you get back the soundtrack alone, encoded as MP3 at the bitrate you pick — the picture is dropped. MP3 plays on every phone, car stereo, music app and podcast tool, so it is the safe choice when you want to listen to something rather than watch it.
How to convert MP4 to MP3
- 1.Choose the MP4 file.
- 2.Pick a bitrate — 192 kbps suits most speech and music.
- 3.Press Run and leave the tab open while it converts.
- 4.Download the MP3.
When people use it
Talks and lectures
Keep a recorded talk as audio and listen on a commute instead of watching it on a screen.
Your own performances
Save the sound of a performance, rehearsal or demo you filmed as a track for your music app.
Podcast and voice work
Pull the audio from a recorded video call or interview into the format podcast editors expect.
What it will not do
Worth knowing before you upload, rather than after.
- MP3 is lossy, and the audio inside an MP4 is usually compressed already, so converting costs a little quality — rarely audible at 192 kbps or above.
- An MP4 with no sound fails, because there is no audio to convert.
- Only one audio track is converted, and the picture is discarded, including any cover image.
- Free files are limited to 100MB and 20 minutes.
Questions
How do I convert MP4 to MP3?
Choose the MP4 file above, leave the bitrate on 192 kbps unless you have a reason to change it, and press Run. When the job finishes, download the MP3. There is nothing to install and no account to create.
Is this MP4 to MP3 converter free?
Yes — free, no account, no watermark, for files up to 100MB and 20 minutes long.
Which bitrate should I choose?
192 kbps is a good default. Use 128 kbps for speech when you want a smaller file, and 256 kbps for music when you want to keep more detail. A higher bitrate cannot restore quality the MP4's audio never had.
Will the MP3 sound worse than the video?
Slightly, in theory, because it is re-encoded from audio that is already compressed. At 192 kbps or above, most people cannot hear a difference.
Can I convert other video formats to MP3?
Yes. MOV, WebM and MKV work the same way — see Video to MP3. Audio files such as WAV and M4A convert too.
What happens to my file?
Your upload goes to private storage that is never public and never listed, and only the anonymous session that created the job can read it. The original file is deleted as soon as processing succeeds. The result stays available for about 90 minutes, and you can delete everything immediately with the Delete now button.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no sign-up, no email box and no watermark on anything you download. A short-lived anonymous session identifies your job so nobody else can fetch it, and that is the only thing stored about you.
